(FNA)- The UN Security Council's resolution on Syria unanimously passed yesterday does not impel any automatic action against Damascus in the case its provisions are not fulfilled properly and any additional steps will require approval by the UN Security Council, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced.

"The UN Security Council unanimously passed on July 14 Resolution 2165 on the humanitarian situation in Syria. The Russian Federation backed that decision because it incorporated our main concerns and priorities," the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, Voice of Russia reported.

"It is of paramount importance that the resolution does not prompt automatic actions by member states as regards Syria in the case of non-fulfillment of its provisions. Any addition steps are bound to be a subject of additional consideration by the UN Security Council and decisions are due to be based on verified information proven with facts," the ministry emphasized.
