(FNA)- Lebanese Foreign Minister Jubran Basil in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Mohammad Fathali called on the regional states to seriously cooperate in the campaign on Takfiri terrorism.

"Fighting Takfiri terrorism needs regional cooperation and more seriousness," Basil said at the meeting in Beirut on Tuesday.

"The danger of Takfiri terrorism threatens stability and security of the regional states more than the states in the other world regions," he added.

Basil also welcomed Iran's military gift to Lebanon, and expressed the hope that the necessary executive measures would be adopted for receiving the weapons.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the latest developments in Iran and Lebanon's bilateral relations and the region.

Late in September, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani announced that Iran plans to gift a military tool or weapon to the Lebanese army in the near future.

"The gift will be sent in the near future and it will be delivered to the Lebanese defense minister during his upcoming visit to Iran," Shamkhani said after meeting Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam in Beirut.

A few days later, senior officials in Beirut said Iran had presented a list of military tools and weapons to be gifted to the Lebanese army to help the Arab country in its fight against terrorism.
