Russia’s Strategy Benefits Iran

The situation in Syria is very critical and should be studied from different aspects. The entrance of Russian forces into Syria has turned conditions in this country against those players who intended to deviate Syria from democracy-seeking towards strategic changes. Under the present conditions when the terrorists have considerably infiltrated this country, Russia’s military presence should be supported because its presence has caused the developments in Syria to come out of the complete control of the West and some western countries even demand power change in Syria. The presence of Russian forces in Syria and its military operations, especially the air strikes, have created a challenge between the eastern and western powers, which is unprecedented since 1982. Russia’s presence in Syria will change the strategies which are close to those of Iran, thus, naturally the next step of the opposition forces would be to prevent the establishment of stability in this country in order to create a challenge between Iran and Russia and present it as the challenge between the two powers which are now placed at one side of the balance.

Therefore, it seems that Iran and Russia must not enter the game of conflict of interests and must draw their strategies along the same path. Iran’s support of Russia’s military operations in Syria is the support of an international anti-terrorism strategy and Iran believes in Syria’s territorial integrity. Iran will support international measures against ISIS and this does not mean interference in the internal affairs of Syria. Even the Syrians themselves do not have this view about this matter.

Political analysts believe that Iran and Syria will not have a conflict of interest in Syria. Of course, Russia has sometimes voted against Iran in the United Nations but the issue of Syria cannot be considered within the past history and, under the present conditions, Russia’s activities against the Salafi terrorist strategies must be supported. Attempts should be made so that the western countries and the US, on top of them, do not use them as an excuse to prevent the interference of Syria’s allied countries inside its territory to fight against the criminal terrorist groups and weaken Iran and Russia’s strategies in Syria in order to create problems between them.
