JCPOA, a Model to Resolve Regional Problems

Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the Islamic Republic of Iran has proposed ideas that challenge all the ruling values of the international hegemonic system. Therefore, one cannot assume that Iran’s political challenges in the international scene will end with one agreement. But the important point is that the viewpoints of the Islamic Republic of Iran could, for the first time, face the viewpoints of the West in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action without ignoring their values in order to find common points. The significance of the JCPOA is that both sides were able to find a common line without losing their principles and reach an agreement which is implementable. If the opponents of this agreement do not create further obstacles in its implementation, this experience could be used in other areas and both sides could cooperate and reach common points on other issues. Otherwise, challenges will continue.

Iran’s level of effectiveness in this new path, which has just started, is promoted both regionally and internationally and its regional and international status will also be promoted due to its further interactions with other countries, including those of the EU. This is an indication of a new chapter in Iran’s relations with, at least, EU countries. On the other hand, many attempt to enflame the tensions between Iran and its neighboring countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and also Pakistan. But the collective wisdom of Iran’s foreign policy will move towards decreasing the tensions with our neighbors. An example is the upcoming visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister to Iran. Pakistan intends to play the role of a mediator between Iran and Saudi Arabia. At the same time, efforts are made to remove misunderstandings between Iran and Turkey. Fighting against the neighbors is not to the benefit of the people of the region. Regional countries must help in normalizing their relations through diplomatic means, because we do not choose our neighbors and security or insecurity in each one of them would impact the others. The behavior of the Islamic Republic of Iran could be effective against negative propaganda and concerns of the regional countries about Iran’s victory.

The other point is that the JCPOA could be used as an example in the political scene so that other complicated regional and international crises would be resolved with the same method without entering a war. The techniques and initiatives which were used in the JCPOA could be utilized to control and contain other crises. It seems that using this model would be to the benefit of Iran and the entire region, although we still have shortcomings in the area of producing science in the area of foreign policy.
