Poverty is the biggest global challenge on human rights
On December 10th 1945, the international declaration of human rights was approved in the UN general assembly. This declaration was ratified as a consequence of the UN charter of human rights’ approval. In that charter, human rights were presented as one of the issues leading to international peace and security.
From the time of the declaration’ approval till now, the world has witnessed global challenges on human rights; and at the same time, the related rights like economic, social, cultural , civil and political rights have been ratified in the framework of such international documents. Through decades, all the human rights issues have been discussed in international conferences by international institutions. There have been many arguments on the universality of human rights and its cultural relativity; and the main points on human rights have been truly advocated and defined. It is a universal issue which has different interpretations and implications.
But the mere discussions on the human rights can not be interpreted as an ideal situation. We are now witnessing violations of human rights in different parts of the world. On the other hand, the situation of people deprived of the simplest essentials for a living is the real manifestation of human rights violations. In such case, one can define poverty as the biggest global challenge on human rights. This is not an ideal situation, but the truth is that any violation of human rights around the world is now being reported and discussed. So we are through with the period of ignorance and oblivion. Right now, any human rights violation gets international attention’ and the states and international institutions pay attention to it.
To achieve improvements on the situation of human rights, the most important point is the execution of human rights in the world. There are many international conventions and documents defining all the related points.
But what are the ways for the execution of such international conventions and documents? Many states have accepted these documents and naturally, it is their duty to implement them. There are also UN institutions designed to improve the situation of human rights in the world. But despite the attempts by the UN, we have witnessed selective, partisan and political positions regarding the human rights; and all these actions have led to a pessimistic view of the world towards the real function of the UN.
As discussed above, poverty is the most important reason of human rights violation in the world. Nowadays, the world is in a financial crisis and this crisis would surely intensify the situation of human rights and poverty around the globe.
This financial crisis would lead to the opportunities slump; so we should seriously seek solutions in this regard.
To improve the condition of human rights, we should pay attention to necessity of human rights’ culture promotion. This can be achieved by offering education on human rights and socializing the activities for human rights promotion.
