Rafsanjani: National unity a must

ILNA: A senior Iranian cleric and politician has warned of plots against the Islamic Republic, calling for reinforcing national unity to thwart conspiracies against the country "Enemies of the Islamic Revolution are using propaganda to mount pressure. We should be cautious that national unity is maintained; it is essential," Chairman of Iran’s Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said in a meeting with members of the Assembly on Tuesday. The senior Iranian official pointed out plots by the "enemies of Islam" aimed at dividing Shias and Sunnis and urged clerics in all Muslim countries to try to resolve minor differences and move in line with their common interests. Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani warned against the enemies’ efforts to influence the thoughts of the youth, criticizing their efforts to malign Islam.

Mottaki attends UN General Assembly meeting

-Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki heads to New York on Saturday for the UN General Assembly meeting. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will join the meeting later to hold talks with officials of different countries. The UN General Assembly opened its 65th annual session at UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday. The UN Summit will be held at the headquarters of the United Nations from September 20-22. It is expected that 139 Heads of State and governments will attend the summit and the general debate


IAEA meeting with Iran, Israel, Syria

: The IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano’s latest report on Iran’s nuclear program is due to be discussed in the regular meeting of the agency on Wednesday.

Amano’s report prepared before the sessions, released early September, has reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to the agency’s rules and confirmed the non-diversion of Iran’s nuclear activities towards military or banned objectives and called for Iran to cooperate more with the agency to clarify the nature of its nuclear program.

As Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh reiterated, although the technical details of the report continue to evade most readers, it underscores the Islamic Republic’s successful achievements in technical and scientific activities, particularly enrichment.

Earlier, the Iranian envoy said that he would provide the Board of Governors with a technical analysis of the IAEA report.

The Non-Aligned Movement’s statement in support of Iran’s nuclear program, released three days after Amano’s report, will be read out by the Egyptian ambassador to the IAEA during the meeting.

The 35 members of the Board of Governors will also address Israeli and Syrian nuclear capabilities and IAEA technical cooperation programs as well. 

Oil Minister: IRI’s need to import petrole removed

-Six petrochemical complexes in Iran are producing petrol, IRI Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi said on Wednesday.

Mirkazemi who is in Bushehr said 6 petrochemical complexes of Jam and Nuri in Asalouyeh, as well as Arak, Buali, Imam Port and Amir Kabir have started producing petrol 26 days ago.

Now gasoline import to the country has decreased to less than a tenth of the figure before, he added.

Referring to the country’s daily petrol production which amounts to 66.5 million liters, he said, the country’s needs to import gasoline has been removed.

It is also scheduled that IRI’s petrol production to increase by 17 million liters by the end of current Iranian year.
