Tehran, Moscow Underline Increasing Cooperation in Oil, Gas Fields

(FNA)- Iranian Deputy Vice-President for Economic Affairs Ali Aqa Mohammadi and Chief Executive of Russia's Gazprom Company Alexei Miller in a meeting in Moscow underscored the necessity for the further promotion of mutual cooperation between the two countries in the oil and gas sectors.



Iranian and Russian officials also discussed the important role the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in world energy security.

The two officials reviewed ways of promoting cooperation in the fields of oil and gas between Tehran and Moscow.

They also stressed fostering cooperation between the GECF member countries in order to improve the level of the world energy security.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is a gathering of the world's leading gas producers aimed at representing and promoting their mutual interests.

The GECF was set up with the objective to increase the level of coordination and strengthen the collaboration between member countries. The forum also seeks to promote dialogue between gas producers and consumers.

The GECF has held 10 ministerial meetings. The first was held in 2001 in Iran and the most recent in April 2010 in Algeria.
