PressTV--A senior member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) says the Islamic Republic will not tolerate US' extralegal moves that go beyond the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations.

“The United States has exerted pressure on the IAEA with political purposes and the agency tends to shift (those pressures) on Iran,” said Chairman of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi on Sunday.

“Iran pays no heed to such approaches,” he added, Majlis news agency (ICANA) reported.

The top lawmaker dismissed recent US-led claims made by IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano against Iran's nuclear program, saying Tehran will not accept moves which pursue Washington's political aims.

Addressing the 23rd UN Conference on Disarmament Issues in Matsumoto, Japan, on Wednesday, Amano claimed that Iran was not cooperating with the agency in providing "credible assurance about the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities."

Boroujerdi called on the IAEA chief to act in line with his “legal duties” and stated that cooperation with the UN nuclear agency has always been on Iran's agenda.

He pointed out that various reports by the IAEA have verified Iran's full cooperation with experts of the international agency.

“According to different IAEA reports, the Islamic Republic has had very good cooperation with the agency,” the senior Iranian legislator reiterated.

Iran insists that as a member of the IAEA and a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, it has the right to use the peaceful applications of nuclear energy for electricity generation and medical research.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence indicating that Iran's civilian nuclear program has been diverted towards military purposes.
