Mehr News – One of Iran’s strategic policies is to strengthen the Lebanese army, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi stated during a meeting with Lebanese Minister of National Defense Fayez Ghosn in Tehran on Sunday.

Iran’s principled policy is to promote the convergence of regional countries, enhance security and stability in the region, and oppose any infringement on the rights of the world’s nations, Vahidi said.

Lebanon should have a strong army to defend its interests in the region, he said.

Vahidi added that Iran believes that stability and security in Lebanon and the region are interlinked.

He also stated that Lebanon should be protected against threats, saying, “Today, the resistance in Lebanon is not unique to a certain group or denomination, and the army and resistance are two wings by which Lebanon is flying toward development, progress, and stability.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Vahidi said that Ghosn’s visit to Iran provided a good opportunity for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the area of defense.

Commenting on the situation in Syria, the Iranian defense minister said that the United States and its allies in the region are seeking to undermine Syria, which is on the front line of the resistance against the Zionist regime, with the aim of saving this regime.

Lebanon keen to increase defense cooperation with Iran

Ghosn thanked the Islamic Republic for the stance it has adopted toward Lebanon, particularly during Lebanon’s 33-day war with Israel in 2006, and Iran’s offer to strengthen his country’s army.

He also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would increase.

Commenting on the situation in Syria, the Lebanese defense minister said that the pressure exerted on Syria is due to its opposition to the Zionist regime.

Hegemons will fail to save Israel

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also held a meeting with the Lebanese defense minister on Sunday, in which he said that the hegemonistic powers will fail in their efforts to save the Zionist regime.

“The hegemons’ purpose is to save the Zionist regime, but they will definitely not be able to realize this desire because the world has changed and their… era has drawn to a close. And the system they have imposed on the world will collapse, and a fair and humane order will be promoted,” Ahmadinejad stated.

He added, “The Zionist regime is a vicious and inhumane entity and will massacre all the people in the region if it finds an opportunity, and it has stated this as one of its aspirations, but their desires will not be realized with the grace of God.”

The domineering powers regard Iran and Lebanon as impediments to the implementation of their plans in the region, Ahmadinejad said, adding, “We have to become united (to realize) our humanitarian objectives and use all of our potential.”

The Iranian president also called on the Lebanese people and government to remain vigilant about the enemies’ plots meant to undermine national cohesion in the country.

All plots against Iran have failed

The Lebanese defense minister thanked Iran for the assistance it has provided to the Lebanese people in hard times and said that the hegemonistic powers have hatched numerous conspiracies against the Islamic Republic, but all of which have ended in failure since the Iranian people firmly adhere to the principle of velayat-e faqih (rule of the supreme jurisprudent).
