Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has delivered a new missile-launching vessel to its naval fleet in the waters of the Persian Gulf.

The domestically designed and manufactured Tondar-class vessel was launched into the waters of the Persian Gulf at a ceremony attended by IRGC commanders and staff, the public relations of the IRGC naval forces announced on Saturday.

“Considering the importance of the Persian Gulf, particularly its northern and central areas, and the existence of valuable oil and gas resources, the defense capabilities to safeguard such resources should be enhanced to a satisfactory level,” said Rear Admiral Seifollah Bakhtiarvand, a commander of the IRGC naval forces, said at the ceremony.

“We have always declared the might and capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran are at the service of peace and cooperation with the regional Muslim countries,” he added.

Bakhtiarvand pointed out that the introduction of similar advanced vessels such as Seraj and Zolfaqar will remarkably enhance Iran’s defense capabilities.

In 2010, Iran opened the production lines for the Seraj high-speed vessel and a new generation of the high-speed Zolfaqar.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems.

The country has repeatedly made it clear that its military might is merely based on the state's defense doctrine of deterrence and that it poses no threat to other countries.
