IRNA -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday that the veto privilege has made the United Nations unable to restore sustainable peace in the international community.

President Ahmadinejad said in his speech to United Nations General Assembly that the current composition of the Security Council is responsible for the bitter events taking place for humanity and that the body must undergo a major change.

He called for putting an end to the veto privilege at the Security Council and said that the decisions being made by the veto powers jeopardize the world peace and security.

Ahmadinejad is making the statement after Iran undertook leadership of the 120-nation Non-Aligned Movement, a major world body after the United Nations.

NAM Leaders said in their resolution in Tehran that the United Nations Security Council is the defunct relic of World War II lacking legitimacy to govern the international community.

NAM Leaders called for restructuring the UN Security Council protesting the veto privilege as the means for certain western governments to impose their own agenda on the international community.
