Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has condemned the execution of Syrian soldiers by terrorists.

A video footage circulated on the web shows insurgents killing Syrian soldiers execution-style at a checkpoint in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib on Thursday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the criminal and inhumane action of terrorist groups to set up death squads to kill innocent soldiers and people,” Mehmanparast said on Saturday.

Iran holds supporters of terrorists and armed groups in Syria responsible for the repetition of such atrocities, he stated.

He also said, “Undoubtedly, efforts being made by the West and certain regional countries to create a security vacuum in Syria will lead to the spread of instability and insecurity in the region.”

He went on to say that the Islamic Republic believes that all regional countries should work together to put an end to violence and help restore calm in the crisis-hit country.

In addition, Mehmanparast said, “Iran regards efforts to improve the security of Syrian borders, support for the plan of Lakhdar Brahimi, the United Nations special envoy to Syria, and the initiation of a democratic process through establishing a national dialogue as the only logical and peaceful solution to the issue.”
