David Cameron congratulates ’his friend’ Obama on US election victory

Mr Obama was re-elected for another four years at the White House after securing the magical 270 electoral college votes needed to win the race.

Mr Cameron extended his congratulations to the president on Twitter earlier this morning with a tweet seen by his two million plus followers.

'Warm congratulations to my friend @BarackObama. Look forward to continuing to work together,' he wrote.

Later, speaking during his tour of the Middle East, the PM said he wanted to work with Mr Obama to 'kick start the world economy .'

'I think he's a very successful US president and I look forward to working with him in the future,' he said.

'I have really enjoyed working with him over the last few years and I look forward to working with him again over the next four years.'
