(FNA)- Iranian Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan announced that his forces will test-fire a new home-made strategic weapon during the massive wargames, codenamed Beit ul-Moqaddas 27, in the Central parts of the country on Monday.

"In addition to testing new weapons and equipment during Beit ul-Moqaddas 27 drills, the newly-unveiled strategic BM sh2 sniper rifle and the Ground Force's 7.62-mm weapon will be test-fired," Pourdastan told reporters in Nasrabad region near the Central city of Isfahan where the drills are being held on Monday.

He added that the 7.62-mm weapon which was unveiled during the Army Day parades in April is capable of killing the enemy soldiers and destroying light military equipment.

The ground troops of the Iranian Army started a series of massive wargames, codenamed Beit ul-Moqaddas 27, in the Western parts of the country on Thursday.

On the second stage of the drills on Saturday, the Ground Forces fired Naze'at and Fajr-5 missiles.

"Today, we started the second stage of Beit ul-Moqaddas 27 drills (which began in Kermanshah region on Thursday) in the country's Western region by firing Naze'at and Fajr-5 missiles," Pourdastan said on Saturday.

Stressing that Iranian experts had enhanced the capabilities of the Ground Forces' missile units, he said, "In Beit ul-Moqaddas 27 wargames the presence of the drone, infantry, armored and artillery units backed up by the heavy fire of the airborne units' helicopters and the Ground Forces' fighter jets will continue in different regions of the country," he added.

Pourdastan underlined that the last stage of the 7-day Beit ul-Moqaddas 27 drills will be held in Isfahan's Nasrabad region in Central Iran.

He also stated that in addition to using new equipment and weapons and their assessment, the troops are due to test advanced tactics specifically designed for fighting against proxy wars.

The Iranian Armed Forces have recently test-fired different types of newly-developed missiles and torpedoes and tested a large number of home-made weapons, tools and equipment, including submarines, military ships, artillery, choppers, aircrafts, UAVs and air defense and electronic systems, during massive military drills.

Defense analysts and military observers say that Iran's wargames and its advancements in weapons production have proved as a deterrent factor.
