No ceiling for promotion of Iran, Turkey ties: FM

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Monday there is no limits for the elevation of ties with neighboring Turkey.

He made the remarks in a tweet after meeting with his visiting Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

“Delighted to host my brother @MevlutCavusoglu in Tehran. In friendly and sincere meeting, we agreed to work on long-term roadmap to further expand our bilateral ties,” Amir-Abdollahian wrote in his tweeted message.

Noting that the two top diplomats “also discussed regional issues, incl #Afghanistan,” he said, “Iran sees no ceiling for elevation of ties with Turkey.”

Speaking in a joint press conference with Amir-Abdollahian, the Turkish FM hailed as “promising” the rise in the volume of trade between Turkey and Iran, which, he said, increased by 71 percent this year.

Noting that the two capitals “are very far from our goals,” Çavuşoğlu called for further action to be taken to promote bilateral trade relations.

He also said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would pay a visit to Tehran before the end of 2021, adding that the visit aimed to strengthen mutual cooperation.
