Iran FM discusses bilateral ties, regional issues with Omani, Qatari counterparts

Iranian foreign minister discussed expansion of bilateral ties as well as regional and international developments with Qatari and Omani counterparts on Tuesday.

The topics were raised in separate phone conversations between Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and the Qatari and Omani top diplomats.

In talks between Amir-Abdollahian and Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, they stressed the need to develop bilateral relations in political and economic fields, and conferred on regional issues, IRNA reported.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views about increasing trade transactions between their countries’ private sectors.

They also discussed regional developments as well as enhancement of cooperation in ensuring peace, stability and security in the Persian Gulf.

In talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood al-Busaidi, Amir-Abdollahian stressed the importance of neighboring countries in the new Iranian government’s foreign policy.

He called for the continuation of consultations between Iran and Oman about bilateral, regional and international issues as well as expansion of mutual relations in political and economic fields.

Amir-Abdollahian stressed that Tehran is ready to implement the previously signed agreements and joint projects with Muscat.

In addition, the two sides expressed hope that bilateral cooperation would be promoted in different sectors.

Turning to the critical circumstances in Afghanistan, Amir-Abdollahian voiced serious concerns about Daesh’s terrorist acts in the country.

The Omani minister invited his Iranian counterpart to visit Muscat.

Since taking office in August, the Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi has repeatedly said his administration’s foreign policy priority is improving relations with neighbors and Asian countries.

The same has been echoed on several occasions by Amir-Abdollahian.
