Iran urges political settlement of Yemen crisis without foreign interference

Ali-Asghar Khaji made the remarks in a meeting with Yemen’s Ambassador to Tehran, Ibrahim Mohammed al-Dailami, on Sunday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

The two diplomats talked about the latest developments in Yemen and the political and international developments relating to the crisis in the Arab country.

They also emphasized the necessity of protecting Yemen’s territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty.

Calling for the resolution of the problems of Yemeni people and the removal of blockade on the country, Khaji said it would hinge on the establishment of truce and the political settlement of the crisis.

The Iranian diplomat also noted that any political solution must exclude foreign interference and should be based on the will of the Yemeni people.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes in Yemen in a bid to restore power to former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The war has killed tens of thousands of people, mostly civilians, and resulted in what the UN has described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Some 3.3 million people have been displaced from their homes and 24 million, or more than 80 percent of the population, are in need of aid, according to the UN.
