Zarif to Leave Tehran for New York Tomorrow

(FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad zarif will leave Tehran for New York on Tuesday morning to take part in the 70th meeting of the UN General Assembly.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi and Foreign Ministry's Director General for Political Affairs Hamid Baeidinejad, will leave Tehran with Zarif tomorrow, while Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and North America Majid Takht Ravanchi will join the delegation in New York later.

The General Assembly (GA) is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to leave for New York on Thursday to address the assembly's meeting, and the UN Sustainable Development Summit.

During his five-day visit, Rouhani also plans to meet the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and a number of leaders of the UN member states participating in the General Assembly.

He is will meet Iranians living in the US and to have interview with different TV networks.

Meanwhile, the President will attend a press conference in New York.

This is the third visit of Rouhani to New York since he took office in August 2013.

The 69th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 69) was held at UN Headquarters on 16 September 2014.

Last year, when the Iranian president was en route to the airport to return to Iran from New York, he and Obama spoke over phone in an unprecedented move, at least, in the last 35 years.

Last week, Government Spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht announced that there is no plan for a meeting between Rouhani and his US counterpart Barack Obama on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
