New US Sanctions and Iran’s Membership in the NPT

-Unfortunately, the western countries, particularly the US, are stuck in an illusion which has, hitherto, prevented Iran-P5+1 nuclear negotiations from bearing fruit.

-The illusion of the western countries is that they think that by exerting more pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran through enforcing more severe sanctions, they will frustrate the people, and then the Islamic Republic would succumb. This is while the 34 year experience of non-stop sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran has shown that the western countries are stuck in an illusion and this approach is also due to their lack of awareness with regard to the Iranian people.

-During different periods of time, the people of Iran have shown their support for the Islamic Republic and proven that they still support the regime and the Revolution.

-The proud people of the Islamic Iran will once again prove to the world that they have, through the will of God, stood by the ideals of Imam Khomeini, the martyrs, and the Revolution by participating in the presidential and city and village council elections and will never leave the scene under pressures and sanctions.

-By participating in the elections, the people of the Islamic Iran will once again show to the world that the sanctions and pressures will not damage their determination and they will create the political epic expected by the Supreme Leader.

-During the past 34 years especially in recent years, the people of Iran have transformed the West’s sanctions into a golden opportunity to reach self-sufficiency and gain independence from the West.

-Enforcement of the new round of unilateral and illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran will unfortunately have negative impacts on the trend of negotiations.

-The western countries must know that despite the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran has proven that it is committed to negotiations in order to completely resolve all differences and misunderstandings, the continuation of hostilities against the Iranian people will be responded to and if this trend continues, it might affect future negotiations.

-The Islamic Republic of Iran will not easily move past the obstacles created in the path of its peaceful nuclear activities and if this trend continues, it will certainly pursue other paths.

-The Islamic Republic of Iran has decided to achieve the complete cycle of peaceful nuclear technology, and it will not retreat from this decision. Therefore, it is necessary for the international community and the affiliated institutions, in particular the IAEA, to accept this reality and the Islamic Republic of Iran as a member of the IAEA which has signed the NPT.

-Being a member of the NPT also provides a right for members, and the IAEA is committed to cooperate and work with the member countries in order to achieve this right which is the complete cycle of nuclear technology, which enrichment is a part of.

-Thus, if the Islamic Republic of Iran reaches the conclusion that the IAEA and the international community do not recognize this right for Iran and create obstacles in Iran’s path to achieve its absolute right, continuation of Iran’s membership in the NPT would be meaningless and the Islamic Republic of Iran would have the right to make other decisions.
